Iwori Meji — The Eye That Sees Within

By Iyanda  ·  2026-05-14

What Is Iwori Meji?

Iwori Meji is the third of the 16 principal Odu and one of the most spiritually powerful. Its energy is that of the inner eye — the ability to see what is hidden, to know what has not been spoken, to perceive truth beneath the surface. Iwori is the Odu of the deep seer.

The name Iwori comes from the Yoruba concept of the inner head — the aspect of consciousness that holds memory, perception, and spiritual knowing. It is the voice that whispers to you when something is wrong before your mind can explain why.

What Iwori Meji Rules

Iwori governs inner wisdom, analytical intelligence, spiritual perception, and the courage to trust what you know. It rules the mind — not just intellect, but the knowing that comes from lived experience combined with ancestral memory. This Odu also governs secrets — the keeping of them and the revealing of them at the right time.

The Gift of Iwori Meji

If Iwori is active in your life, your gift is discernment. You can read people, situations, and energy with an accuracy that sometimes frightens you. You often know the outcome of a situation before it unfolds. Iwori people make excellent counsellors, strategists, and spiritual advisors.

The Shadow of Iwori Meji

The shadow of Iwori is overthinking — the trap of seeing so clearly that you cannot act. Analysis paralysis is the Iwori curse. The other shadow is isolation — becoming so absorbed in your inner world that you neglect the warmth of human connection.

Remediation

Physical: Trust your first instinct. Practice making small decisions quickly to rebuild that muscle. Protect your eyes and your mental health.

Spiritual: Spend time in deliberate silence. Not distracted silence — intentional emptiness. Iwori speaks in the quiet.

Ancestral: In your lineage there is likely someone known as the wise one — the family elder who saw things coming. Ask for their guidance when you are confused.

Biblical/Quranic: Proverbs 20:5 — "The purposes of a person's heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out." In Islam, connects to Ilm — sacred knowledge as a divine trust.

Orisha Connection

Iwori Meji is associated with Orunmila — the Orisha of wisdom and Ifa itself. When Iwori is active, Orunmila is very close, whispering guidance through your own inner knowing.
