Ogun — The Iron Warrior Who Opens Roads

Who Is Ogun?

Ogun is one of the most ancient and most powerful of the Orishas — the divine warrior who governs iron, war, labour, technology, and the clearing of paths. He is the one who goes first into the jungle with his machete, cutting a road where there was none. Without Ogun, there is no progress — because progress requires the courage to move through what has not yet been crossed.

In Yoruba cosmology, Ogun was the first Orisha to descend to earth. He went before the others, clearing the primordial forest so that life could begin. This act of going first — taking the danger upon himself so others could follow — is the heart of Ogun's character.

What Ogun Governs

Ogun governs all iron and metal — weapons, tools, machines, vehicles, surgery, construction, and technology. He governs war in the sense of the courage to face conflict directly. He governs labour — honest physical work done with the hands. He governs justice through force — the kind that does not negotiate with wrong but removes it. In modern life, Ogun governs all metal workers, soldiers, surgeons, engineers, mechanics, and drivers.

Ogun in Your Life

When Ogun is active in your chart or reading, there is work to be done — hard, honest, physical-spiritual work. Ogun does not reward those who wait for ideal conditions. He blesses those who pick up the machete and start cutting the path. If Ogun is blocking you, examine where you have been avoiding the necessary work or the difficult confrontation.

Honouring Ogun

Ogun's colours are green and black. His sacred number is 7. He loves palm wine, smoked fish, and rum poured directly on iron. Place a piece of iron — a nail, a bolt, a key — on his altar. The most powerful offering to Ogun is honest work. Whatever you are building, build it with integrity and full effort.

Ogun in Astrology

In the AstroDu framework, Ogun corresponds to Mars — the planet of drive, courage, conflict, and physical action. He governs the 1st house and the 8th house.
