Who Is Oya?
Oya is the Orisha of winds, storms, and radical transformation — the most powerful female warrior among the Orishas and the one who stands at the boundary between life and death. She is Shango's most beloved wife and his fiercest ally in battle. Where he throws lightning, she commands the winds that carry it. Together they are the storm.
Oya governs the marketplace — particularly the markets of transition, change, and the exchange between worlds. She is the Orisha of the dead, not in the sense of death itself but in the sense of the passage — the transition from one state of being to another.

Oya governs winds and storms, transformation and radical change, the boundary between life and death, the marketplace of exchange, female warrior energy, ancestor veneration through the Egungun masquerade, and all transition — of season, of phase, of life stage.
